Taconic Crest Trail Traverse
05/05/2018 Region: New England Activity Type: Hiking/Walk Place: Williamstown, MA
Spring has finally arrived! I spend a great deal of time in the white mountains but given the large quantities of snow still to melt it's time to shift gears. I would like to do a day long traverse of the Taconic Crest Trail in the northwest corner of Massachusetts. The trail zig zags between the State of New York and Massachusetts, crossing back and forth. This hike would require spotting cars - hence the "Trip Idea". I'm open to any stretch of the trail really - so long as we get a solid day of 7 to 8 hours of hiking and sunshine. The two highest peaks on the stretch I'd like to tackle reach heights of 2,569 (Mt. Raimer) and 2,818 (Mt. Berlin). I'd characterize this hike as moderate in terms of elevation gains and distance. If you are from Boston or points east/north/south of Sturbridge, MA you are welcome to crash at my house the night before to make the journey easier. If you are interested, e-mail me and we can map out the details and I'll post the trip for other members to consider joining. Let's seize the day and soak in the sunshine. Temperatures are predicted to be in the 60's with mostly sunny skies!!
I'm interested but not sure. Long haul, however, as I'd be coming Friday from Boston. Pls keep me posted. Thanks. Jeff
june, after trail clearing would suit me well. May is out for me. Great idea, bravo. Luciano
I'm interested too. I'll definitely be hiking somewhere this weekend and I've never been out that way before. It will be a nice change from the White Mountains and probably good practice for my upcoming hike of the CT section of the AT. Keep me posted too. - Dan
This sounds great, I'd love to do it with the caveat that I'm coming from NYC and don't have a car. If we can figure out a bus or train pickup spot I'm in.
