When nine gay outdoor enthusiasts head out on a two-day mountaineering clinic, the rules are simple: hike mountains in blizzard conditions (yea, right), climb vertical frozen waterfalls with ice tools (of course), and no talk about real life until the end (climb on!)

(MENDOZA, Argentina - January 28) Hello out there. This is Mike Boisvert reporting for the Gay Outdoors Aconcagua Expedition, writing from Mendoza, Argentina. Rob Jagnow, Jonny Rosenfield, and Bruce reached the summit of Aconcagua at 22,840 feet on January 24!
(MENDOZA, Argentina ---January 9) Yes, folks, the GO Aconcagua Expedition is ready to roll. Jeff Weekley, Rob Jagnow, Jonny Rosenfield, Mark Street, Bruce Galipeau and Mike Boisvert are now in Mendoza, Argentina. Today we visited the grocery stores and mountain gear shops, to make sure we have plenty of food and supplies for our expedition.
Ya gotta love winter in the Northeast. The fourth season transforms our highest peaks into wind-scoured alpine islands of snow and ice, as spectacular as they are challenging. Stepping into the artic above-treeline world provides great adventure, bringing you into the domain of some of Nature's most primal forces. Trails sheltered below treeline can be equally thrilling as they clamber over icy boulders and ascend steep snow-covered slopes.
An alternative look at the wide brown open land known as Australia.
Sometimes the luxuries of car camping are impossible to resist: The fluffy depths of a 5-pound air mattress, the juicy reward of a grilled cheesburger, and the lazy joy of knowing that there's nowhere to get to because you're already there. You don't have to trek into the backcountry to escape the masses at these five undiscovered campgrounds. We'll help you pick a spot where the wilds---and your cooler---are close at hand.
The backcountry has always held a mighty allure for skiers, but only in the past few years have desire, equipment, and access converged to make off-piste adventures attainable for those unable to apprentice themselves to the mountains for an entire season. Resorts are opening their gates, ski schools are broadening their instruction, and wilderness safety courses are easier to find. Even the ski season, once limited to winter and early spring, keeps expanding as die-hards hike up before the lifts open for a few extra turns. Here's how to take advantage.
(Campton, NH---12/5/04) Six hearty souls from GayOutdoors.org are readying to scale Argentina's Mt. Aconcagua. At an elevation of 22,840 feet, it is the highest mountain in North, Central and South Americas; and the highest outside of the Himalayas.
Does the thought of lazing by the pool for two weeks a year leave you cold? Perhaps you need a vacation from your vacation. Instead of running up a bar tab, try running up a moonlit beach. You could spend days shooting the breeze at a motel or shooting the rapids on a wild, scenic river. If you're tired of chasing tequila with beer, maybe chasing dolphins through azure waters sounds tempting.
1954 saw three boys come in to the world, one in Maine, one in Vermont and one in New Hampshire. As the who was born in Vermont, I came to know the other two in the last 10 years, initially through my membership in Chiltern Mountain Club. To say that I've come to respect and admire these men is an understatement; to say that I've enjoyed some of the more significant outdoor activities of my life with them is the praise I want to give them. Our last birthday boy is GayOutdoors founder and President, Mike Boisvert
You're already fitness walking several times a week – great! Ready to step it up a bit? There are several ways to turn walks into workouts without significantly breaking stride. They just involve a little creativity and walking outside of the box, as it were. "A few simple techniques can help maximize the benefits of your walk and make it more of an overall body workout," says Jo Ann Taylor, owner and founder of The Walking Connection, the nation's leading walking organization.
It's really quite amazing that people would travel great distances, and spend their valuable time and money to hang out with people they (in many cases) haven't even met. But Gay Outdoor Enthusiasts are such a cool and diverse group of people. I can't imagine associating with such a disparate group of people and being so at ease, and having such a good time, in any other circumstance. It was a really great bonding experience, and so much fun! We were happy to host the Gay Outdoors Gathering at the Barton Cove Campground in Greenfield, MA, for its second year.
Pack up your troubles in your old dry bag and smile. If you're comfortable with paddling and with camping, you're probably ready for an overnight trip.
