Six brave souls set out to uncover the mysteries of Emmons & Taylor. We kept our excursion undercover. We wore camouflaged attire (hiking gear) as not to arouse suspicion. We ensured we were not followed (luckily we had the trails to ourselves).
We circumnavigated the foreign terrain (actually the trails were well marked). We were unstoppable - overcoming obstacles and other barriers along the way (mostly blow downs on the trail). We crossed great waterways - the mighty Batson River (on a footbridge of course). We even walked on water - albeit in a frozen state (snow).
Nothing could deter our search for signs of the ancient civilizations that inhabited the area. We crossed old territorial borders (remains of old stone walls). Even encounters with wild birds of prey (a seagull) could not stop us. We were relentless.
As we made our way through the mysterious landscape we encountered remains of a residence. From the best we could determine these were pre-century ruins (that being prior to the year 2000). Rumor has it a famous American statesmen occupied the abode (obviously, we started the rumor).
Close by was an ancient burial ground (family plot). This eerie discovery sent shivers down our spines (in part caused by the cold winds). What kind of past civilization occupied this land? We surmised it must be our ancient ancestors (the chosen ones called “farmers”). On the site, we held the primordial ritual of lying on the ground in hopes of contacting their spirits (see photo below if you have any doubts).
On our return to the trail head (the Kennebunkport Conservation headquarters) we witnessed a mob scene participating in another ancient ceremony (a bunch of women attending a baby shower). This display was of such a foreign nature to us we quickly exited the premises. Shaken up (but mostly hungry) we convened at a local watering hole (pub) to reminisce about our adventures.
BY THE WAY – it was a great hike with a really nice bunch of guys. We are all looking forward to future GO adventures.
