Trip Report/Photos
The second hike of the series took us to Pawtuckaway State Park. We met at a local Dunkin Donuts and followed each other to the back entrance of the park where we were to start our hike. My printer decided malfunction the night before so my printed map was difficult to read. Not a problem as Jeff and Bob, who live in the neighborhood frequent the park and know the trails well ((Thanks for making it so much easier for myself and the group)).
Nine of us (Rick, Robert, Luciano, Jeff, Bob, Mark, Brian & Charlie) headed off on North Mountain Trail on a trail that had already had some traffic since the fresh snow the previous Wednesday. I was glad that we would not have to break trail for the duration of the trip. After reaching the summit of North Mountain (1011'), we headed down to the radio reflector tower and took a lunch break. It was cold, so we did not linger too long before heading off past Devil's Den and across Round Lake. We followed Mountain trail until we got to the junction to head up to the fire tower. The group decided not to head up to the tower and instead make our way back to where we parked. I said I would return with a group in the Spring so that we can hike up to the tower and take in it's views. After returning to our cars a subset of us headed over to Epping to enjoy some Irish food at the Holy Grail restaurant.
We are half way through the GetWinter series of hikes. Next week we head up to Nancy Pond, a hike that I have not done, but Rick warns that it is not a 'Nancy' hike. I am looking forward to it and I hope you join us too.
