We will be staying at the GO Center at the entrance to the White Mountains in Waterville Valley, NH for a cross-country ski weekend. Click Here for more information of the Waterville Valley Nordic
The address is 676 Upper Mad River Road, Thornton, NH 03285. I would suggest you MapQuest this or use GPS. If you need further directions, contact us. Park at the top of the driveway and walk down to the house with your gear [including ski boots if you have them]. I would leave the skis in your car.
On Friday, January 31st, 8 members got together for this weekend. Most of the participants got up to our house at Waterville Valley, NH around 6PM. Everyone cooked their own dinner in the kitchen.
This first evening was spent socializing and having light snacks in the great room near the fireplace. This weekend was the perfect event to get away from everyday stress to get outside for cross-country skiing.
Saturday morning after some coffee and bagels we were ready for exercise! We left the house around 10:00AM.
Our annual cross-country ski weekend never fails to surprise us…and on this year’s trip we were treated to exploring the South End! Wintertime made it back to the Waterville Valley X-C ski trails with 4 inches of fresh powder the past few days! Trails were open at both the north and south ends. There was 61k of groomed trails. It warmed up just in time for our weekend with partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 30. We all had a fantastic time!
Eight Goers were loving every minute of it but nothing tops our fun-loving après-ski dinner! After a great day skiing, everyone congregated back to our house to hang out by the fire for a wine/beer and snacks social. Jon and Mike served up an amazing herb grilled chicken topped with peppers along with mushrooms in a marsala sauce. There were two sides of pasta: rigatoni tossed with baby spinach in a tomato sauce and rotini in a pesto sauce. This was accompanied with oven baked garlic bread. For dessert we had red velvet cake with a white glaze and shaved dark chocolate.
We then played Jenga, went upstairs in the loft to view pictures taken during the day and view a couple episodes of ‘Ultimate Alaska Survival’, an adventure travel race with three teams competing; a lot of the men weren’t bad for the eyes either . Sunday morning after breakfast we all packed our bags and said good-bye’s with promises of meeting again at future GO events.
This was a wonderful weekend spent with a great group of guys. It was relaxing and everyone seemed to have a blast. Thanks to everyone for making it such a special gathering. We plan on doing this again next year!
