Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at:

Darmouth's Ravine Lodge is at the end of the appropriately named Ravine Lodge Road, right of NH's Route 118.  The best way to get there is to get off at exit 32 off I-93 (Woodstock/Lincoln/Kancamagus) and go west on Rt. 112 past North Woodstock.  A few miles out of town, you will see the signs on the left for Rt. 118, turn left, and follow it for about 5 -6 miles (this is a mountain road and it winds a lot, so it'll feel longer), at which point you will see the sign for the Ravine Lodge on your right.  Turn right and go all the way down.  As soon as you see cars parked on the left side the road, you are there, and you need to park here, since there is no parking nearer the lodge.  There is a turnaround by the lodge, so if you are having a hard time turning around, just drive to the end and come back.  We will meet inside the lodge.

Threat of thunderstorms didn't deter four signed-up GO members and one un-signed GO member (I'll leave you to figure out who that was.  Hint:  he has a loud laugh!).  As we went up the Gorge Brook Trail, the threatening skies cleared up, and we actually had some welcomed sunshine until we got to the summit.  Although the summit was cloudy, it was nevertheless quite dry and pleasant, and so we had a leisurely lunch.  We went back down to the Dartmouth Ravine Lodge via the Carriage Road/Snapper trails, and decided to have an early dinner at the Woodstock Inn & Brewery.  As we started to drive to North Woodstock, it suddenly started to rain quite heavily, and we all thanked Mother Nature for waiting to let loose until that point.  We are also happy to report that the renovations of the Woodstock Inn & Brewery are coming along nicely, and that the restaurant is open for business.

  • Often it is worth taking the chance of getting wet on a hike. It may pay off on occasion like yesterday. Great hike! Thank you Carlos. - WalkaboutBrian
