Woo hoo! There's snow on the Allegeny Plateau! Lets take advantage of it while it lasts We'll meet at White Grass Ski Resort https://whitegrass.com and explore their 31 miles
https://whitegrass.com GPS works just fine in Canaan Valley. We'll meet in the parking lot. I'll hoist my insect net on my red truck.
After a paucity of snow last winter, the WV's Allegeny Plateau finally has SNOW! The White Grass ski center whitegrass.com has 31 miles of trails that connect to the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge that has another 10+ miles of trails. Many were groomed. Those that weren't allowed for trailblazing fun. Trails I did explore were amazingly beautiful with varying levels of difficulty. I took advantage of White Grass' 30 minute technique class. I should have taken one of these years ago! Unlike in the past, I only fell twice in two days. Woo hoo!
It snowed all day on the 24th, creating that shroud of silence one enjoys on the trail, save the sound of falling snow and a busy woodpecker here and there, The snowfall made for a different natural beauty on the 25th. When the sun came out in the late morning, the evergreens were festooned with snow and the rime ice on the bare branches glistened
White Grass hosted a local Special Olympics on the 24th. It looked like all participants were having fun.
The lodge served hearty soups and baguettes for lunchs. Yum!
