Join us for this winter snowshoe hike to Lonesome Lake Hut. The whole hike is just over 6 miles with about 1200 feet of elevation gain. We will hike up the Basin-Cascades trail and Cascade Brook
...We will start out at the Basin parking lot at 10. Note this will be the side of the parking lot you would be on if you exit from Franconia Notch Parkway (I-93) coming from the south (going northbound on I-93), and it would be the lower level of the parking lot. If you’re coming from north I-93 (going southbound on I-93), just cross under the tunnel to the other side of the parking lot. We will be driving a white mini-cooper.
Trip Report/Photos
A great winter hike! Recalling some years ago I 'lost' a snowshoe on the hike up to Lonesome Lake, in the rushing waters of Cascade Brook. In some miracle, Mike B. had noticed a blog that mentioned a found single snowshoe; it was re-united to me by another hiker who sent it from Maine.
Now I'm being more careful - here's a shot from last Sunday, post hike - with BOTH snowshoes in hand (boots).
thanks Thad & Joe, and everyone else who made it a wonderful day.

Thanks Fred, and thanks to everyone that came! In total there were 8 of us - myself, Joe, Dave, Wayne, Fred, Barrie, Jim, and Phil,
It was a beautiful day for a snowshoe hike, and we enjoyed leading this trip that we've led multiple times before (including the time Fred 'lost' his snowshoe!) but hadn't in several years. Fred did the whole hike this time with two snowshoes instead of one, although Barrie decided to do the hike without snowshoes as the trail was pretty packed down except for the last 2 miles on the Pemi trail where we broke trail. We had a few snow showers during the day, which added to the beauty of the hike. We enjoyed a nice warm lunch inside Lonesome Lake hut along with some goodies that the hut caretaker had made. After the hike several of us went to Mad River Coffee House in Campton for warm drinks and desserts.
Hope to see everyone again sometime soon, either to play in the snow or in the warmer weather.
