It was a cold blustery day however the sun sure helped! We wore MicroSpikes however we wished we had brought snowshoes. With this collection of recent small snow events, the snowpack is growing and the trail is soft.

We went up the ladders through the boulder cave. On the summit we enjoyed the views of snow covered Squam Lake beyond Rattlesnake Mountain. The snow over the lake enhances the intricately patterned peninsulas and islands! I wouldn’t be surprised if Morgan shows more fresh water that can be seen anywhere in New Hampshire!

The ridge walk over to Mt. Percival had some drifting snow. It was probably below zero with wind-chill on the ridge because we both had to put on our balaclavas to protect our face. We had a different perspective of Squam and the surrounding peaks from Percival but it does appear the trees are starting to interfere with the views.

We skipped the path through the caves. I’ve always gone through the caves about the 20 times I’ve been here and I’ve never taken the bypass! I thought the bypass was quite nice. Only saw one hiker the entire day. So much fun!
