Summary

This is a loop trail with good views towards the southern Presidentials. You get multiple summits with Avalon offering the best views. Mt. Tom and Mt. Field are wooded, and offers more obstructed views through the trees.

We start at the Highland Center, then climb the Avalon trail until reaching  Mt Avalon summit., which has the best views of the entire loop. We'll then continue on the Avalon trail until we reach Mt Field summit (4K footer). From there we pick up the Willey Range Trail until reaching the intersection with  Mount Tom Spur Trail, then ascend to Mount Tom (a 4K footer). We descend back to the intersection and pick up the AZ trail until reconnecting with the Avalon trail, taking us back to the Highland Center.

Hi Guys, dropping off this hike since it was rescheduled to the same day as the Presidential traverse. Have fun!

baezfred Posted May 8, 2025 at 10:27 AM

Glad you can join us for the Moose, Bob. I just posted it. Sorry you are missing out again, David. Lots of hikes coming up. These rainy Saturdays must stop sometime!

dpbyrnes Posted May 8, 2025 at 10:24 AM

will not be back in town until the 22nd so will miss out again. Thanks for staying on top of it Fred and rescheduling.

Bobcat Posted May 8, 2025 at 10:05 AM

I would like to do the Moose. Hikers can stay over at my house near Franconia Sat night if desired.

baezfred Posted May 8, 2025 at 9:45 AM

Good morning. Saturday is a bust. I am going to reschedule for June 21st. Sunday forecast is sunny. Mo and I plan on doing Mount Moosilauke and South Peak Loop. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-moosilauke-and-south-peak-loop. Who can join us? I'll post it.

Helvetic Hiker Posted May 8, 2025 at 7:12 AM

Weather does not look very promising.

baezfred Posted May 7, 2025 at 9:02 AM

Well, here we go again! Looks like rain Friday and Saturday. It is likely I will have to reschedule again, especially considering the water crossing and how slippery the trail might be. I'll check the weather again tomorrow and decide by the evening.

baezfred Posted Apr 10, 2025 at 6:22 PM

OK. Rescheduled. Mo and I did Willard today and checked out the water crossing for Avalon. The water is very high! We couldn't cross it.

baezfred Posted Apr 10, 2025 at 7:41 AM

If I reschedule, I might do it for May 10th. April weekends are full! So far, May is pretty open and flexible depending on what works for Jason and Jim.

dpbyrnes Posted Apr 9, 2025 at 10:28 PM

If we need to reschedule Sunday works for me. The 26th or 27th is also good. Or May 10th. thanks Fred
