Celebrate the first day of fall 2024 with a hike over South and North Baldface in the White Mountains. This loop has two of the 52 With A View peaks, each offering a 360-degree view with Maine to the east and Mt. Washington to the west.
The distance is 9.3 miles, and the elevation gain is 3,600’. There are steep ledges as we ascend clockwise up South Baldface, so the weather will be an important factor for this hike. (These ledges are on the Terrifying 25 list if you’re interested in completing these.) Definitely wear shoes that have strong traction. If it’s warm enough at the end, we can swim in the Emerald Pool, just off the trailhead. I hope you can join us!
Please bring the ten essentials in your pack at all times: https://www.nps.gov/articles/10essentials.htm

Baldface Circle Trailhead is located at 2223 Main Road in Chatham, NH 03813, which is Route 113. You can also look for the Emerald Pool parking lot, just north of Cold River Camp. The trailhead has a fairly large parking lot that can accommodate 20-25 cars and a bathroom.

Can I bring my dog? He's a good boy...
Everyone- Unfortunately this last-day-of-summer hike is going to be a first-day-of-fall hike. There is an ocean storm that is bringing rain and wind to the coast of MA and NH today that will be heading north and west through the night. WMUR is calling for a 68% chance of rain on Saturday morning, and South Baldface should be avoided in the rain. For safety's sake, I am going to push this hike back a day to Sunday, 9/22. Please update your RSVP if you cannot make it on Sunday.
Bruce- From what I can tell online, dogs are allowed on the trail.
Hi everyone. The weather is looking good for Saturday! The temperature will be in the mid-to-upper 60s, but remember to bring layers in case it gets chilly as we climb. Also, make sure your footwear is up for some fairly steep slabs. Please reach out to me with any questions leading up to our hike. See you on Saturday (or Friday night if you're staying at Bob's).
Hikers are invited to stay over at my house near Franconia NH Friday and or Saturday nights if desired.
