Summary

Join me for a New Year's hike up the Lonesome Lake Trail to Lonesome Lake Hut. The hike is only 3 miles round trip with a 1000 foot elevation gain. We will have lunch at the hut and enjoy the views from the lake. It takes about 1-1.5 hours to reach the hut including a stop at the lake with a great view of Mt. Lafayette. (Total hike time about 3-4 hours including lunch). We will be hiking in winter conditions at a moderate pace with time to enjoy the scenery. There will be ice and snow. MicroSpikes or Hillsounds Crampons are mandatory. Please have the appropriate gear/clothing to hike this time of year and the appropriate amount of layers to keep your core body warm. We recommend WINTER hiking boots, MicroSpikes, poles, wool hat, gloves, hand warmers, rain/wind gear, warm layers, HEADLAMP and NO COTTON. Carry at least 1 liters of water, lunch and snacks. I will send out a communication a few days before the hike with the trail conditions. Since this is a winter group hike, please try to stay together during the hike. If you find yourself getting too far ahead, please wait for the other hikers to catch up. Hikers are welcome to come over my house (about 15 minutes from the trailhead) after the hike. Hikers can also stay over Thurs night if desired.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Meet at Lafayette Campground Parking Lot (Southbound side of Franconia Notch Parkway) or carpool from my house 15 minutes from trailhead. Email for directions.
