Summary

Join us for a hike up the Kinsman Ridge Trail to the summit of Mt. Cannon. The trail is steep but only 2 miles one way to the summit. We will have lunch at the summit cafeteria and enjoy the views from the summit tower. It takes about 2-3 hours to reach the summit including a stop at the overlook with a great view of Mt. Lafayette. (Total hike time about 5-6 hours including lunch). We will be hiking in winter conditions at a moderate pace with time to enjoy the scenery. There will be ice and snow. MicroSpikes or Hillsounds Crampons are mandatory. Please have the appropriate gear/clothing to hike this time of year and the appropriate amount of layers to keep your core body warm. We recommend WINTER hiking boots, MicroSpikes, poles, wool hat, gloves, hand warmers, rain/wind gear, warm layers, HEADLAMP and NO COTTON. Carry at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks (or purchase lunch at the summit caf). I will send out a communication a few days before the hike with the trail conditions. Since this is a winter group hike, please try to stay together during the hike. If you find yourself getting too far ahead, please wait for the other hikers to catch up. Hikers are welcome to come over my house (about 15 minutes from the trailhead) after the hike for an apres-hike pot luck. Hikers can also stay over Friday and or Saturday night if desired.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Meet at Tram parking lot (Hiker Parking Section) at Exit 34B off of Interstate 93. Or carpool from my house 15 minutes from trailhead. Email me for directions to the house.
