We’ll meet up to consolidate our carpool in Camarillo (Pleasant Valley Road x US101) at 7:30am (SHARP!) on the morning of Saturday, December 11 in preparation for our long (2-hour) carpool to the trailhead, mostly along dirt roads skirting the Sespe Condor Sanctuary. L.A.-based hikers should plan on leaving L.A. no later than 6:30am.
It's cheating, isn't it? Eighty degree weather in December, while the rest of the country shivers under horrendous cold and snow? Just another day in beautiful Southern California, and we made the most of it, exploring a little-known canyon in the Sespe backcountry that shelters a secret wonder: a mysterious cave full of some bizarrely beautiful native American art. Fall colors were still at their glory in the canyons, and after a day tackling some challenging route-finding and bushwhacking, we savored a pleasant campfire with friends and soon were off to sleep under a starry sky.
