Trip Report/Photos

The Gene-Marshall / Piedra Blanca National Recreation Trail can take your breath away as the high Sespe backcountry slowly awakens to spring.  Soft greenery pushes through the formerly wintry canyon, the ladybugs swarm, the streams giggle.  The only way a person can improve it is to find some good hiking buddies to enjoy it with, which is exactly what we did.  Hard hiking and route-finding, vaulting over steep ridges, dodging rattlesnakes, and enduring the second day's knee-punishing downhill stretch of 2500' loss over 1.5 miles was all made easy by having the perfect group of guys to share it with.
