West Clear Creek is one of the top hidden Arizona hikes: remote, rugged, and gorgeous. It cuts into red sandstone from the rim at 5500' to the canyon floor 2000' below. Sunny
...Meeting Time: 9 am, Saturday 9-August
Meeting place: Camp Verde, AZ (90 miles north of Phoenix).
Meet at: Starbuck's Coffee, 1620 W State Route 260 (I-17 & Hwy 260), Camp Verde, AZ 86322
Driving time from Camp Verde to West Clear Creek trailhead: about 1 hour
Road conditions: Dirt/Forest roads are passable (when dry) for regular cars.
Return Sunday afternoon to the trailhead.
Directions from Camp Verde to the trailhead:
1. Drive east on AZ-260 to AZ-87 (~31 miles)
2. Turn north on AZ-87, ~12 miles to Clint’s Well.
3. Turn left (NW) onto Forest Highway-3 for approximately 12 miles.
4. Turn left (west, then aim south) on Forest Route (FR) -81 (dirt) for ~3 miles until the fork in the road and veer right satying on FR-81E.
5. At the next fork, turn left (east) at the fork of FR-81E and park at the trailhead.
6. Trail begins/ends here.
