Route 28 from east and west meets Route 11 at a rotary just south of Alton Bay.  Take Route 11N/28A which soon reaches Alton Bay where Rte 11 turns sharply left and then right to go up the west side of the lake.  From here it's 4.2 miles to the Mt Major parking lot on your left (west side).  If the lot is full parking is permitted on the shoulder of Rte 11.  We'll meet at the map/info board in the parking lot.  Please bring water, snacks and lunch for the summit.

Inspite of a threatening forecast, 7 intrepid GO members (+ 2 guests) enjoyed a good, vigorous hike to the open summit of Mt Major, joining dozens of other hikers enjoying their Labor Day holiday in the Belknap range.  Views were reduced by the summer humid haze but beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee spread itself out below us.  A good day was had by all.
