Join us for a nice walk of the Freedom Trail before the Go Holiday Party. The trail is about 2.5-miles. We will begin in Charlestown at the Bunker Hill Monument and end at
Take the Orange Line to the Community College station. We will meet at the Bunker Hill Monument for 3:00pm.
Thirteen of us met at the Bunker Hill Monument where we started the Freedom Trail, a 2.5 mile hike through Boston which passes by 17 historical landmarks. First, we all climbed the 296 stairs to the top of the Bunker Hill Monument for some great views of the city. This was the most rapid elevation gain that most of us had for a hike at the start. Than we began the hike which was blazed by a solid red line about a foot wide painted on the sidewalks, occasionally the painted line converted into a double red brick line.
We ventured along the trail to the USS Constitution, our nations oldest naval vessel still in service. After passing through naval security we toured the three masted sailing ship with the help of several of the crew members. Continuing on the trail we checked out the Copp's Hill Cemetery than checked out the Old North Church. We made it into the church just in time for a short presentation on the history. Next, we walked through the North end of Boston with the strong aroma of roasted garlic and Italian fare exciting our stomachs, we passed through the open-air market, than found ourselves in front of The Oyster House. Here we diverted off the trail to visit the Holocaust Memorial across the street than got back on track until we got to Pi Alley. Our leaders guided us to a gay bar where we hung out for a half hour and had a few drinks. How convenient there be a gay bar right along a trail! Once we continued again we stuck mostly on the trail to the end at the Boston Common than made our way to the front door of Club Cafe for the GO Holiday Party.

Comment: This is such a great trail with the rich history. A must do for everyone young and old. The moist weather made the city rich in color and very enjoyable. Thank you Rick and Chuck for taking the lead!
