I'm planning to hike Mt Adams via Air Line Trail on Sunday October 11th. Mt Adams (5,774 ft) is the 2nd highest peak in the White Mts. The Air Line trail is the most direct route
We had a nice easy walk up Air Line Trail. We were treated to a spectacular view once we got above tree line. Then things got ugly; high winds, snow and freezing temperatures. We made our way to Madison Hut and took shelter on the leeward side, and discovered interesting ways to warm our hands. 'had a little snack and decided to skip Mt Adams and make for Madison summit instead (1/2 mile closer).
We summitted amid high winds and limited visibility. No sooner did we turn to descend than the sun came out and the snow stopped. We had an amazing view on the way down.
Will reshedule Mt Adams for next summer (Like July!)
