Basin and Saddleback Mountains Trip Report

By Mark Laske.

I climbed Basin and Saddleback yesterday with two friends...pretty tough. Basin was good and the view was amazing and then the proverbial shit hit the fan and the weather arrived. I thought my raingear was going to shred before I could get it on all the way!

Neat approach to Saddleback, in the clouds up a 40-50 foot rock face looking for handholds and foot holds with the wind trying to pick you off the mtn. Topped it and got my 36th!

Ten to go. I got my knees and legs pretty scuffed up, but it was a great way to spend the 4th...a little Motrin and a couple of bandaids and I all set.

I think the west to east loop we took is the only way to do both, I'd hate to come down what I had to climb!

Going up Big Slide or Colden (again) on Saturday with some of the hockey team. Haystack on 7/21 with an overnight at John's Brook Lodge. I love the summer!
