GayOutdoors' Has Only Two Get Fit Hikes Left

August 31: Jennings Peak

September 7: Mt. Tom

Experience the ultimate GayOutdoors adventure - a series of hikes that progressively get harder to help you GetFit and climb up one of the NH 4,000 footers! Only two from the series of five hikes are left.

Whether you are new to hiking, or have not done so in a while and want to get back into it, this is the perfect series for you. It will help you condition for the harder hikes or help you find out what difficulty level you are at. There is no requirement to do all five so you can drop out at any time. So far we've had hikes to Franconia Falls, Lonesome Lake and Mt. Potash. We'll be finishing before the chilly autumn air begins to arrive in the mountains. Join Dave Schumaker and Rick McCurdy, for these fun, guided hikes.

Jennings Peak

Your adventure will begin at 10:00AM at the Sandwich Mountain Trail parking lot in Waterville Valley, NH, where you'll meet Dave and Rick and the other members who've signed up. After you complete the steep ascent scrambling with poor footing on tree roots you'll reach Noon Peak and take in the incredible views of the Tripyramids, Passaconaway and Whiteface.

When you reach the summit of Jennings Peak, you'll get great views of Welsh-Dickey, Tenney Mountain and Mt. Cardigan while having lunch. Once you return back to your car you will have hiked 6.5 miles with 2,055 feet of elevation. The trip begins at 10am and should finish by 4pm.

There is no cost for this trip since all our trips are run by members who volunteer their time.

Mt. Tom

This is it! The 4,000 footer you've been getting fit for! Your adventure will begin at 10:00AM at the AMC Highland Center at Pinkham Notch, NH, where you'll meet Dave and Rick and the other members who've signed up. You'll begin taking a spur path with lots of waterfalls. After the last steep, rough 0.5 mile to reach the height-of-land, we'll take a right to begin our final ascent up Mt. Tom [4,051'] through a tunnel of evergreens into leafy trees alternating with spruce and fir.

There are two incredible views on the summit. One is of the Presidentials while the other is the Pemigewasset Wilderness. Don't be surprised to find Gray Jays lurking over you while having lunch. They will eat right out of your hand! There is an option for members to continue on to tag Mt. Field, another 4,000 footer, that is nearby. Once you return back to your car you will have hiked 5.8 miles with 2,250 feet of elevation. The trip begins at 10am and should finish by 4pm.

There is no cost for this trip since all of our trips are run by members who volunteer their time.
