Trip Report/Photos
We headed down the Conway River Fireroad hitting a half-dozen switchbacks on our way down, crossed several streams and came upon the boundary between Shenandoah National Park and the Rapidan Wildlife Management Area around mile 2. We continued on for a little while longer and came upon two merging streams that crossed the road and then took a rest and decided to head back up the fire road to Bootens Gap Parking Lot. We stopped along the way to try to identify the many birds singing and I was able to make out quite a few American Redstarts (https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/American_Redstart/overview) with their balck heads and bright red-orange splashes on their sides and tails. I could hear one main bird everywhere but I couldn't see it. Later, loooking online I heard what I think was a Hooded Warbler (https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Hooded_Warbler/overview)
We enjoyed our 2.5 hour 4 mile hike and headed back to our campsite to pack up the camper and end our first camping excursion of 2019.
