Trip Report/Photos
This was a nice 14.8 mile hike which took about 7 hours. The hike was relatively flat with a gradual descent at the end which browught us into downtown Damascus, Virginia. Upon entering Damascus, the AT when through a town park and then along a sidewalk which past by several outfitters and bike shops.
The "stinging nettles" were very potent on this hike and the trail was overgrown for about 5 miles of this hike, which made it somewhat an unpleasant experience. Other than that the Cherokee National Forest was a really pretty here.
Two us us did this hike.

What Members Are Saying About This Trip/Event
- Amen to stinging nettles being unpleasant - apparently they are potent near the end of a season of growth as I passed stinging nettle several days later still growing and it was not an issue - but loved the terrain around Damascus - I see why through hikers love that area, and they throw a party in mid May for them - edfarthing
