The North Kaibab trail to Roaring Springs canyon from the north rim Grand Canyon. 6 am 25-30 degrees. Quickly warmed up as the morning and the descent progressed. Beginning at 8200 ft. this hike was approx. 5 mi. to the view of Roaring Springs at 5200 ft. Fall colors were in display. The majority of the elevation is right at the beginning going down 1000-1200 ft. very early on. First stops are a water station, Coconino overlook & the tunnel. Several sections hug steep cliffs – upon one side and down on the other side of a not so wide trail. There's no issues with falling unless not paying attention. No special skills needed for this trail. Days are shortened by the high cliffs keeping the sun out well after sunrise and shading well before sunset. And the Kaibab plant – rumored to bloom ones in 100 years.
