Summary

I have the day off, so I figured I might as well get a hike in!

I've never done this hike and I'm not a particularly experienced hiker. That being said, AllTrails (see hike) has the following information:

  • Length: 4.4 Miles (loop)
  • Elevation Gain: 1,781 feet
  • Average Time: ~3 hours
  • Conditions: Using 11/2 as a reference (it's the farthest date out that AllTrails has weather predictions for), the weather looks like it may be ~30 degrees at the start of the hike and ~45 degrees at the end of the hike.
  • Parking: $5 self-pay parking lot. It seems this lot often fills up and people then end up parking alongside the road.
  • Bathrooms: There are bathrooms at the trail head / parking lot area.

For the start time, I chose 8:30am. I am flexible on this if people join and want to align on a different time. Whatever the final agreed upon time is, just note that we'll plan on having a max 15-minute wait time for anyone running late.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Meeting Spot: Let's meet in the parking lot / near the trailhead.

Directions: I'm going to just follow my GPS using the location listed on AllTrails (link). However, if you prefer written directions, here ya go:

Directions from Intersection of SRs 175 & 49, NH: Travel east on SR 49 about 4.5 miles and turn left on Upper Mad River Road. Travel a short distance and turn right onto Orris Road. Follow Orris Road for .6 mile taking a right at the fork into a small parking lot. Trail begins there.

I’m glad some of y’all will still be going. My dog ended up needing emergency surgery last night. It turns out he had 3 toy squeakers stuck in his intestines. Hoping he’ll be returning home tomorrow morning to start his recovery. Hope to join y’all another time.

StuckinNH Posted Nov 10, 2024 at 11:15 AM

I'll be there

Sorry to hear about your pup, hope he's better today. I have the day off and still want to do the hike so if anyone else would like to join me, I'll be at the trailhead at 8:30.

Sorry to hear about your pup. Hope he's on the mend soon.

Hi all, I deeply regret that I don’t think I’ll be making it on Monday anymore. My dog had a surgery unexpectedly rescheduled for this past Tuesday and he’s not doing well. He hasn’t eaten for 48 hours and won’t stop vomiting. We’re at the emergency vet right now trying to figure out what’s wrong, but I don’t think he’s going to be well enough on Monday for me to feel comfortable leaving him alone. I do hope y’all still get together, and again, apologies for this last-minute notice.
