This AT hike is fairly flat over the first 12.5 miles, with five ascents and descents of about 500 ft. At 5.1 miles we come to Wolf Rocks (3893 ft) with great views. Salt Log Gap (3257 ft) is reached at the 7.8 mile poiint. From here we begin an ascent to Tar Jacket Ridge (3847 ft) and panoramic views at 9.1 miles. After a short descent and ascent the hike reaches Cold Mountain (4022 ft) at 11.2 miles with 360 degree views.
Another descent and ascent brings us to the high point of the hike at the wooded Bald Knob (4059 ft). From Bald Knob our descent of 1984 ft., over the next 2.8 miles, begins and ends at Long Mountain Wayside.
Please allow 10 hours of hiking time for this clothing optional hike. This is a one-way hike and requires a car shuttle.

We will be leaving the Super 8 for the trailheads at 8:00 AM sharp. Please arrive earlier for planing and driving directions. This is a one-way hike and requires car shuttle. Driving time to the trailheads is 1 hour and 2 minutes.
