Summary

Join Jim and Neil for the first day of our Burlington, VT-area biking weekend, a moderate difficulty ride along Lake Champlain. We'll bike 30-miles round trip from the ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Burlington to the Allenholm Farm in South Hero and back. We'll ride the Burlington Bike Path and the Colchester Causeway. This includes a very short ride on the bike ferry across a gap in the Causeway. (The ferry is free, but donations are gladly accepted.) This route affords great views of Lake Champlain and the Green and Adirondack Mountains, and is entirely flat. While most (2/3) of our route is paved, 1/3 of it is hard-packed crushed limestone. Road bikers should be able to manage the unpaved portion of the route, but if you have concerns about this, consider renting or borrowing a hybrid (preferably) or mountain bike.

While we won't have a formal lunch stop, we will make periodic rest stops. Bring snacks and plenty of water. A sweatshirt or light jacket would be advisable as well. If there is interest, the group will have dinner at a restaurant in Burlington afterwards. We’ll discuss that during the trip.

Please let us know if your plans change and you can't attend the ride.

UPDATE 8/11- If temperatures on the day of the ride are conducive to swimming, we may stop at a beach along the trail to do so. If you're interested in participating, bring a bathing suit and towel, and perhaps a plastic bag in which to carry your wet suit after the swim.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

Meet at noon (sharp!) in front of the ECHO Leahy Center for Lake Champlain at One College Street in Burlington (on the Burlington Waterfront).

UPDATE 8/16- It's likely not legal to park on the street in downtown Burlington for the duration of our ride and possible dinner. As such, consider these alternatives: College St. Garage, 60 College St.; Lakeview Garage, 41 Cherry St.; Perkins Pier Lot, foot of Maple St.
