Summary

This will be a fascinating long walk along Boston's historic waterfront and through its ancient North End.  And it'll be a great way to walk off all of those turkey dinners!  On the four-mile ramble, we'll explore the still-existing 18th and 19th century wharfs on the Boston Harborwalk, including Long, Commercial, Lewis and Battery Wharfs. Then we'll head into the North End, settled in 1630 and the oldest residential part of Boston.  First to be explored will be the ca. 1659 Copps Hill Burying Ground, where we'll pay a solemn visit to the grave of the Revs. Cotton and Increase Mather, so infamous during the 1692 Salem Witch Trials.  Walking past the unbelievable "Skinniest House" and the 1723 Old North Church, we'll hunt and find the most ancient (and mostly in plain sight!) structures in the North End, the most well-known being the ca. 1680 Paul Revere House on North Square.  After our historic adventure, we'll drop into one of the many authentic Italian eateries where we can schmooze and dive into some delicious early dinner.   Please be prepared for colder temps (and strong wind!) along the waterfront and wear layers for warmth.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

We'll meet at the imposing statue of firebrand Samuel Adams, right in front of historic Faneuil Hall at 1 Faneuil Hall Square, Boston, MA 02109. This is located right off Congress Street, opposite the back side of Boston City Hall.  There will likely be lots of people there, so look for me wearing a red Boston Red Sox baseball cap.  Best bet is to take the Orange Line T to either the State Street or Haymarket stops and walk over to the close-by Faneuil Hall.  Parking in downtown Boston is available, though only for a two-hour meter limit on the street.  There are some parking garages nearby, though they tend to be pricey...
