Summary

Join Neil and Bruce for a leisurely summer bike ride along the East Bay Bike Path from E. Providence to Bristol, RI, via Riverside, Barrington, and Warren. This path along the Rhode Island coast affords some lovely ocean views, and often an accompanying sea breeze. We’ll bike approximately 24 miles round trip, with a stop at Colt State Park in Bristol for lunch—and hopefully a swim—on the return trip! The path is wide and well-paved, with only a mild incline on the outbound leg. (There *is* one formidable hill at the end of the ride, however!)

Coastal New England weather is unpredictable, so check the forecast before you leave home. Layers that you can add/subtract are your best bet for clothing. To be safe, throw in a poncho as well! Also bring sunscreen, a bike helmet and lock, a bathing suit and towel, plenty of fluids (more than you think you'll need!), and a lunch and/or snacks. Bruce and Neil likely will go into Providence for dinner after the ride. You all are welcome to join us!

Note: This ride is being co-listed with Chiltern Mountain Club, a co-ed group. We’ll open up any unclaimed Chiltern slots to GO  members a few days before the ride.

IMPORTANT: Please check your bike well before the trip. Make sure your brakes are working and fill your tires if they're low. Check the tires for bulges or other signs of damage. A bulge may mean a weak spot in the tire and/or tube, and an impending flat. In fact, even if your tires seem fine, pack an extra tube if you have one. Consider getting your bike tuned up if you haven't done so this year.

Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot

We’ll meet at “lot 1” (across from Mercer St.) on Veteran’s Memorial Parkway in E. Providence, just south of I-195. Look for Neil’s navy blue Toyota Prius with MA plates or Bruce’s black Camry with RI plates. If lot 1 is full, as it tends to get in good biking weather, there is at least one other lot a bit further south on Veteran’s Parkway. Or you can park on one of the side streets, but be sure to check posted parking rules.
