Summary
This hike is going to be a moderate climb up Mount Sugarloaf in Sunderland, MA. We'll climb to the top, take in the breathtaking views and maybe have a bite to eat before heading down. This is a nice hike as it provides a good workout climbing the mountain but the ascent does not take too long. One of the highlights of the views is how far you can see the Connecticut River stretch. Hikers are encouraged to dress appropriately and have a properly packed daypack with plenty of water, food/snacks and sunscreen and bug spray. Hiking poles/sticks can also be useful, especially navigating steeper parts of the trail. I anticipate the hike should take no more than four hours. Any questions, please ask. In the instasnce of a cancellation I will try to give at least 24 hours notice.
Directions To Trailhead Parking Lot
Where to Meet: If coming from I-91, get off at exit 24 which is for Deerfield. If you are getting off from I-91 northbound, you will make a right at the top of the offramp. If you are coming from I-91 southbound, you will make a left at the top of the offramp. Proceed to the traffic light where MA 116 heads off to the east. This is pretty much just past the offramp and there is an Irving gas station at the corner. You will make a right onto MA 116 east and follow it down to the first traffic light which is Sugarloaf St. If you cross over the Connecticut River going into Sunderland, then you have gone too far. At Sugarloaf St. you will make a left and the parking lot is an immediate right on the corner.
If coming from Amherst, follow MA 116 to the west all the way to downtown Sunderland. Cross over the Connecticut River and make a right at the first traffic light onto Sugarloaf St. The parking lot is an immediate right off of Sugarloaf St.
I'll be holding a sign-in pad so you'll know this is a GO hike. Any questions please ask. Thanks!
