Dick Ambrose Interview
1) Who is the most inspirational male outside athlete ever? I think it would have to be Sir Edmond Hillary, the organizer of the first two-man team to climb Mt. Everest. It’s also admirable to know that although his mountain climbing days are behind him, he now devotes his energies to environmental causes and to humanitarian efforts on behalf of the Nepalese people. 2) What's your favorite place that you've been to on the planet? That question is truly impossible for me to answer, because I love so many places. The common denominator of them all though is that they are all wilderness areas, with little evidence man has ever been there before. 3) What gear innovation would you like to see most? A handheld GPS (Global Positioning System) for the general public that works under a deep forest canopy. 4) What are the first five songs you would play on your ideal roadtrip? Nicholas Gunn’s Earth StoryNicholas Gunn’s Painted DesertRuss Deane’s Day DreamsBruce Boyd’s Waterfall ReelGandalf’s Just a Heartbeat Away 5) Where would you build your ideal vacation house and name three features? I would build it on the North Shore of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The back of the house would be completely open to views of the Caribbean in the distance, every bathroom would have outside showers, and it would be anchored into the hillside so that the natural environment completely surrounded it. 6) What book do you pack when you head out on an adventure? I usually carry field identification books on the plants and animals of the area I’m visiting. 7) If you could solve one challenge facing our world, what would it be? No question about it…it would be global warming. If we don’t do something soon, the earth’s ecosystems are going to be irreparably damaged. 8) If you could do "lunch" with someone who would it be? And why? Brad Pitt. Why…because he’s Brad Pitt! 9) GayOutdoors has a passion to make it better--in the communities where we live and the environment we cherish. Let us know how you are making a difference in your hometown. Try to recycle as much as possible; be a wise energy consumer; and in any election, my vote goes for protecting the environment in any issue where there are options. 10) Finally, are you a Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or Matrix person? Lord of the Rings. I’m a Frodo-kinda guy!
