Trailhead is at 33.5 mile-marker on Skyline Drive, Shenandoah National Park and at the southend of Meadow Spring parking area.
Look for a Burgundy Honda Ridgeline Truck
We started out on a sunny Saturday morning, down the Buck Hallow Trail (just off Skyline Drive milemarker 33.5 and right by a parking lot). We hike down the path which in many places was a stream from springs popping up in lots of places due to the weeks of rain. Fortunately, we all had great footwear so our feet stayed nice and dry.
We hike all the way down to a stream that we could not cross due to the speed of the current and the depth of the water (probably 2' to 3'). We had hiked for 2 hours and 20 minutes and decided to have lunch, enjoy the river and then head back up.
Like most hikes in Shenandoah, the first part of the hike is easy--all downhill. But you always have to go back and this makes the return trip all uphill. We headed back up slowly but surely, taking necessary breaks, but enjoying the souds of water everywhere which I captured in many photos and a few videos.
Our return drive to our campsite treated us to a black bear sighting, typical of the area this time of year. Total hike time was about 4-1/2 hours and about 6 miles.
