Bluff Point is the last remaining significant piece of undeveloped land (over 800 acres) along the Connecticut coast, declared a coastal reserve by the CT legislature in 1975. It is one of few places...
Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at: From I-95 North or South take Exit 88 to CT-117 South. From the intersection of CT-117 and US-1 in Groton drive 0.3 miles on US-1 to a left onto Depot Road. The GPS address "1 Depot Road, Groton, CT" takes you to this point. Once on Depot Road drive 0.7 miles, passing an industrial park and bearing right under a railroad bridge, until you reach the parking area. We will meet at end of parking area, at trailhead. Look for the billboard with map of park trails that is adjacent to some picnic tables.
Trip Report/Photos
It was a perfect day for a easy hike and then a dip in the Sound. The Sound easca bit agitated, so it felt like open ocean sometimes. And the salinity level was high. But a quick swim was so refreshing after sweating in hot sun.
