We'll first meet near Ledo Pizza, 7052 Commons Plaza, Chesterfield, VA, just off Beach Road.  I'll have a WHITE 4-dr Honda Accord with trailer hitch bike rack. Then we'll drive down the 3.5 miles to the entrance of the park.

Use mapquest or Maps.Google on "State Park Road and Beach Road, Chesterfield, VA" to get to the turn off and to get to the main gate.

The trail head is near the Nature Center and Heritage Center, about 1/4 mile from the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Museum.  We'll start the ride in the parking lot near, but not next to the Nature Center (you'll see other bikers parked for sure).

Pocahontas State Park Mountain Bike Ride

I had no riders so it was a solo ride, but still very enjoyable.  We swung by the parking lot near Ledo Pizza and then drove to the parking lot near the Science Center, Pocahontas State park and biked up the fire road which leads you to the trail head. The conditions were just incredibly good-perfect temperature and humidity and the trails were in excellent shape.

I biked the 1 mile to the trail head and chose my favorite, the green trail which has a great balance of moderate twists and turns, bridges, fairly steep down hills, and a few exposed roots, and enough up-hills to make you work. I rode at a fairly fast pace since it was just me so I had to stop a couple of places to catch my breath and also take in the sounds and smells of a woodland forest moving into Fall—squirrels running around, acorns falling, and the early smells of fall.  At the end, I felt great so I rode the fire trail down to Qualla Rd and then headed back, passing a group of women I had passed when I first got on the green trail.  They were just ending their ride.  The entire ride took about 45 minutes.
