Caesar Creek State Park has over 40 miles of trails; however, our trip will be limited to a small 4.3 mile stretch of the Southern Perimeter loop near the dam. We'll walk in and turn around for an 8.6
From Columbus, Ohio take 71 South. From Cincinnati, Ohio take 71 North. Exit West on S.R. 73 (Exit 45). Turn Left (South) on Oregonia Road. Turn Right (East) on N. Clarksville Road. We'll meet at the picnic area just before the dam (Flat Fork Ridge Recreation Area). Full directions and itinerary will be available for confirmed attendees.
After a minor problem (U.S. Government Shutdown) barred our entry to our designated meeting place we all managed to still meet up and entered through the fossil reach spillway and began our southern perimeter loop hike. Trails were well blazed (yellow) and the path was well worn, although narrow in some spots. Terrain was moderate to strenous but manageable. While on our hike we passed Horseshoe Falls, the Pioneer Village and Crawdad Falls. There are some really amazing views. Since our hike was planned as a day hike our turn around point was Fifty Springs Picnic Area. It was a great time, with great people.
Note to futue hikers: You will cross a small stream - waterproof hiking boots are recommended. We did not encounter drinking water, so be sure to pack in enough. Restrooms are located at the Pioneer Village and Fifty Springs Picnic Area.
