Petersburg National Battlefield Bike Ride
Tuesday 6/04/2013

I was the only rider, but this gave me a great opportunity to explore the trails a bit more after doing a pre-ride the week before.   I had studied the map and was anxious to see the trails after studying the map and writing down where I need to turn.

I left the parking lot of the Visitor Center, 5001 Siege Rd, Petersburg, VA and within ¼ mile hit the trail head and headed east. The conditions were a perfect and the trails were in excellent shape.

I started my ride at post “L”, top of the map, and rode east on the yellow trail Battery “7” trail crossed a bridge and proceeded to Post “I”. I turned south (right) at post “I” down to post “G”, turned right onto the red trail and then to “H”, turned North (right) up to “J” and proceed to “K”. I got the main road (black and white dashes) and proceeded past the historic battlements to “C” straight south to “B”, turned west (right) on the Harrison Creek Trail to “R”, “Q”, then east on the Water Line Trail and back to “C”.

I got back on the main road and headed west to “P” and enjoyed a trail beside a creek with large pines on either side. I hit “N” and then west (left) towards M and down the Friend Trail towards post “X”, on to “W” and “V” and headed east on the main road back to “P”. I rode along the creek again to “N”, and at “M” I turned northeast along the Friend Trail and back to my starting point, Post “L”.

Trip time was 45 minutes. I am eager to ride the other trails next time I am there.
