Friday night the 1st of March our group began to arrive for a pizza and wine social to start the weekend at the Frog Medlow B&B. With a warm fire in the living room around the fireplace we enjoined sharing GO outings we had participated in during the past year. It was fun to talk of the summer of GO events while we prepared for a weekend full of winter sports! A storm the day before dropped 14 inches of snow on Frog Meadows 63 acres, and the surrounding area looked like the perfect weekend winter wonderland for a group of GO Outdoorsmen. As the evening progressed, a number of us were not willing to let a nice glass of wine, a starry night and a wood-fired hot tub go to waste! Saturday morning as were setting down to a great fresh fruit and waffle breakfast, several local GO members showed up wanting to join the days activities, As we talked over coffee we shared what ideas and where were all headed for the day. Our downhill skiers headed out, one to Mount Snow, and one to Stratton. The remainder of us packed up out day packs put on our snowshoes and headed out onto the Frog Meadow trails. What a great day on the trails up to Round Top Mountain and to The Love Tree! For those of you questioning what The Love Tree is, The Love Tree is a large tree which has a smaller tree grown around it hugging the larger tree as it grew from the base to the top (see the photo posted with the trip report). We all returned to the nest around 4:00 PM and over wine and cheese shared war stories of our day’s outings. Jody lucked out with one of the best days of downhill skiing at Stratton in over two years. Andrew too had a great day at Mount Snow. The snowshoers poked a lot of fun at the downhillers that we never stood in a lift line at any point in the day…the skiers poked fun at the snowshoers that “the glide really sucks on snowshoes”. As we shared cheese and wine the fish tales of the day grew larger and larger and more elaborate! Hosts Dave & Scott prepared a great evening meal of turkey & veggie chili complemented with cornbread and a green salad with honey mustard dressing (made with honey from Frog Meadows beehives). If we had not had enough to eat Dave made a great apple raisin cake with apples from Frog Meadow’s own orchard fresh whipped cream. The hot tub again called several of us for one more dip before calling it an end to a great GO day! On Sunday we all again gathered for hearty Frog Meadow breakfast of fresh fruit, French Toast and Sausage. As we talked we all agreed this had been another great GO Winter Weekend with a fun and diverse group of guys. I would like to thank Dave and Scott for a great weekend at Frog Meadow. I look forward to next year as we plan to make the March GO Event at Frog Meadow a snowshoe weekend with a Friday night pizza social, Frog Meadow snowshoe trails Saturday, and a great Dave Saturday night dinner. I look forward to seeing you and other GO members at the March 2014 Frog Meadow Winter GO Weekend!
