Looking to get some guys together to go to Water Wheel in Payson, AZ on Saturday, September 8th at 11am. We'll meet up in the parking lot, grab our gear, and hit the trail to the various
Directions to hike: From the 260 / 87 intersection in Payson go north on 87 a couple miles to the Houston Mesa
turnoff on the right. Follow 7.8 miles to unmarked Water Wheel Camp Grounds. If you start going up hill and pass
mile marker 8 you missed the pull out to the right at 7.8 miles.
We started our hike at 11:05a and had 6 members and 2 guest in attendance. The weather cooperated and we had lots of sunshine despite the forecast that called for afternoon showers. We first explored the confluence of East Verde and Ellison Creek and headed to the Ellison Creek cascades (photo attached) and cooled off in the brisk water for a bit. From there we hiked the remaining areas up East Verde. There we found additional swimming and rock climbing. After that we made our return to the parking area. We discussed planning a hiking and camping trip in the month of September which I'll try and get together and on the calendar ASAP.
I enjoyed meeting everyone and can't wait for the next trip!
