This hike is somewhat unique in that the elevation rate, and total gain, is moderate, but it is a "long" 12.1 mile hike. This is what I call  a "water hike" meaning that

Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at:

You will need to find yourself on 113A.   From the east, heading north, take 25, and when it turns to 16, stay on it as if going to N. Conway, for example.  In Chocorua, take a left on to 113.  Approximately 2 1/4 miles later in Tamworth, take a right on to 113A.  Approximately 7 miles more, look for Whiteface Intervale Road, on the right.  It will be a sharp right turn at the height-of-land.  Almost immediately you'll see a brown Park sign.  Do not take that road, but continue further down the road for .3 miles to the Park sign (left).  From the west, 25 -  113 - 113A.

We hit the trail under perfect weather conditions, the moderate temps and a refreshing breeze making for ideal hiking conditions.  Even the mosquitos were not a problem, surprisingly enough.  There were a few horseflies, though,  and Sonny (dog) provided an entertaining "dance" for us as he tried to fend them off.  One surprise though, was the water levels where we had to cross was rather high and at some point I think we all gave up trying to keep our feet dry and just sloshed through the many crossings.  We had lunch on the pond at a designated spot, which provided truly impressive views. It was an enjoyable and interesting  trip, made so by the scenery and participants, Rob, Markus, Kevin, John and of course Sonny.

  • Great choice Ron; that was the most amazingly varied terrain I've hiked in the last year. Tropical, alpine, boulders and cascades. We could have been hiking anywhere in the world! - markmtn
