We'll go uphill about 2 1/2 miles in and out through woods and over rocks to the summit which is about 1,200' in elevation. We may find remnants of an abandoned ski operation along the trail.
From the Portland area, head west on 25 through Standish to 113. Take right onto 113 and follow until it intercepts with 160 in Brownfield. Take left and go through Brownfield. Stay on 160.Watch for small boat launching space on left. The parking lot to the trailhead is a small dirt lot on your right just beyond the boat launch. There is no sign so it is easy to miss. I'll be there in a siver-gray Explorer with loon plates.
One of the best ways to reach trailhead from the west is take 302 from N.Conway into Fryeburg where you'll take right towards Brownfield. There you'll go right onto 160 and go as above.
Ron and I started up the trail about 1020. We hadn't gone far before we found a large evergreen tree had blown accross the trail from last Monday's storm. It was easy to navigate around and we continued on. Aside from leaves making the trail a little slippery and the trail taking so many sharp turns you hade keep a sharp eye out for blazes to keep from losing the trail, we had a good rewarding hike. Though there weren't too many spots to see far off mountains through the trees, there was much beauty to see in hugr rock slides, impressive old trees, and a long stream unusually numerous miniature waterfalls Unfortunately, Ron forgot his camera and many of the shots I took were blurry because I moved my Iphone too much.. There weren't photos taken that showed the full beauty Ron and I enjoyed.
