Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at:

Thopmson and Putnam are located in North East CT, just off of I-395. The northern end of I-395 is in Auburn at the intersection of the Mass Pike and I-290. Thopmson will be a 20 minute ride from Auburn and Putnam will be a 30 minute ride. The specific meeting location will be emailed on April 7th to everyone who signs up.

The forecast for Saturday looks good, the water flow is really good right now and looks to be that way for the next 5-6 days. So... We will be running the river from Rt. 14 in Canterbury down to Aspinook Pond in Jewitt City. We will meet at the Park N' Ride at Exit 88 off of I-395 in Plainfield. We will then caravan to the put in site and shuttle the cars to the take out.
The park n' ride is on the west side of the highway in between the ramp and the highway. If you are coming south on I-395 you will need to turn left (east) to get to the lot. Meeting time is 10:30 AM. Bring lunch and drinks as there is nothing along the river to shop at. Expect the run to take 3-4 hours.

With only one no-show the turnout was very good for this early season kayak trip.

We started off with two people dumping within 100 yards of the launch point. Another kayaker stepped out of his kayak to assist and ended up in 5 feet of water. After getting them all righted and pumped out we continued on. The river was up about 5 feet and moving fairly fast. The sun came out and all was well on the river. The only need for paddling was to steer, the river did the rest.
