It truly was the best weekend ever on the spectacular Downeast Coast of Maine, made the VERY best with our awesome group of GOers! The hike along the coastline of Campbello Island in Canada had incredible vistas of the open Atlantic and the looming, mysterious and faraway shore of Grand Manan Island. Several cute seals were sighted and the spruce-laden fog forest was a eerie, surreal treat. Our best day by far was Sunday with the loop hike along the Bold Coast (Cutler Preserved Lands). In the leader's humble experience (20 years of hiking this stretch of the Maine Coast), he deemed the day the best he'd ever seen on the Downeast Maine coast! The vistas were breathtakingly spectacular along the entire coastal trail with its plunging cliffs, spruce-clad shore and drop-dead gorgeous pocket cobble beaches. The long weekend ended with a few of us going on a boat cruise out to the remote Petit Manan Island Wildlife Refuge where we were able to view the rare puffin colony and monumantal stone lighthouse. In other words, the most ideal Maine Coast Adventure one could ever imagine! PS - we took some incredible images on the trip, but for some reason, most of them uploaded sideways. Sorry about that - it wasn't my fault! ;-)
