Summary

Come hike Cannon Mountain and visit Lonesome Lake Hut for a post Thanksgiving hike celebration! Bring leftovers for lunch if you want!

This will be an approximately 8 mile loop with a very steep start and a more moderate afternoon.

We will meet at the Cannon Mountain Tramway parking area and ascend the Kinsman Ridge Trail 1.9 very steep miles up to Cannon Mountain. On a clear day this will have great views down into the notch and over at Franconia Ridge. If the ski area has opened that weekend we can stop in at the summit lodge, but it's not guaranteed they will be open yet. Then we descend Kinsman Ridge trail about 1 mile to an unnamed connector that will take us another 1 mile down to Lonesome Lake Hut, which is open year round and where we can go in for lunch and refill water if needed. It will be approximately 4 miles from the trailhead to the hut. After lunch we will descend about 1.5 miles down to the pemi trail, which is relatively flat and takes 2 miles to loop us back to the tramway parking area.

I'll try to post a picture of the map with the route highlighted. There are a lot of little unnamed connectors in this area so it's a little challenging to describe.

Total Mileage:

7.5-8
Elevation Gain: Lots coming up and down Cannon, much less descending from the hut and looping back to the parking lot.

Please come prepared for fall and winter conditions! I will keep an eye on the weather in the week leading up and let you know what kind of snow and ice we might expect. Please have the appropriate gear/clothing to hike this time of year and the appropriate amount of layers to keep your core body warm. We recommend WINTER hiking boots, MicroSpikes, poles, wool hat, gloves, hand warmers, rain/wind gear, warm layers, HEADLAMP and NO COTTON. Carry at least 2 liters of water, lunch and snacks.

Please arrive by 8:15am, we will start hiking at 8:30am.
