Loop hike starting at Canopus Lake in Fahnestock State Park and going to Hidden Pond and John Allen Pond. Approximately 6 miles, should take 3-4 hours. We will hike at a moderate pace. Not a beginners hike so experienced hikers only. There are plenty of ups and downs along the way, some of them moderately steep, with views of some old iron mine workings, several lakes/ponds and a few stream crossings. Possible muddy patches. Should be beautiful fall colors. The 8:56AM express train from Grand Central arrives at Croton Harmon at 9:45. I can pick up 3 people in my car and drive us to the trailhead. Those driving can meet at the trailhead (Three Lakes Trail Trailhead at Canopus Lake on route 301; there's overflow parking nearby at the AT trailhead.)Bring hiking boots, water, lunch, bug spray. This is a co-posted hike with Sundance Outdoors.
Route 301 runs through Fahnestock State Park which lies between the Taconic State Parkway and route 9. Parking for this hike is next to Canopus Lake which route 301 goes by. Park by the lake right across from the Three Lakes Trailhead, or if that is full just a bit further west in the Appalachian Trail Southbound trailhead parking lot. We'll meet at the Three Lakes Trailhead.
