Come spend a spectacular early-fall weekend at Umbagog Lake State Park, one of New Hampshire’s most beautiful places to paddle, hike, camp, and simply get away.
IMPORTANT: DON’T WAIT TO BOOK! Umbagog is an incredibly popular destination, and sites can fill up quickly. You have lodging options that include CABINS (yes, cabins!), RV sites, tent sites, and Adirondack-style lean-tos. Reserve early so you don’t miss out!
September is an amazing time to be at Umbagog. The water has been warming in the summer sun for months, the days can still be warm enough for swimming and paddling, the nights turn cool and crisp, and the first fall colors can be absolutely spectacular.
Umbagog Lake borders the Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge, with miles of open water, quiet coves, islands, and incredible opportunities for wildlife viewing. Bring a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe and explore. Hike during the day, swim, sit around the campfire at night, watch the stars, or just unplug for a few days.
I’ll be out on the water paddleboarding throughout the weekend and will offer an Introduction to Paddleboarding on Saturday for anyone who wants to give it a try.
Bring your own SUP, canoe, or kayak if you have one. Canoe and kayak rentals may also be available through the park, so call ahead to confirm.
Come for the whole weekend or just come for the day. Paddle. Hike. Swim. Wildlife watch. Hang out on the beach. Enjoy the fall colors. Sit beside the fire on a cool September night.
CAN’T MAKE THE WEEKEND? COME DURING THE WEEK! I’ll be camping at Umbagog Lake from September 7 through September 16, Site 1D, so come join me for a day or a few days of paddling, hiking, and exploring.

Hi, I will be coming during the week for a couple days.
Just a heads-up: New Hampshire State Parks opens reservations exactly 11 months in advance, so if you want a cabin or a prime campsite, mark your calendar and be ready to book at 8:00 AM in just a few days! When I booked site 1D, I was online at 7:55 AM, waiting for the clock to strike 8:00 so I could snag it!
