Trip Report/Photos

Cold wet start to the day did not dampen the spirit of adventure. Starting at the junction of the Mad Tom Notch Road and the AT/LT (VT Long Trail) we began the ascent of Mt Styles. Stready climb was fairly moderate, nice maintained trail. Reaching the summit with clouds slowly lifting and opening views in several directions. Climbing over to Mt Peru was fairly easy going, but no views through the thick, forested summit. Trail descends very gently to the Mt Peru shelter. In excellent condition set next to a beautiful stream. Several tent sites were surrounding the shelter. The trail remains flat along the shore of the amazing Griffith Pond. Again sevral tent sites scattered through the area. (AMC fees apply to shelter and tent sites). Reaching the north end of the pond the hike turned south following a hiking/snowmobile trail reaching a fire road access point. Short walk along the road completed the 10.5 mile loop (approx 4.5 hours). This was a great trip, amazing hikers and another wonderful oppertunity to meet fellow travelers. This trail is a great day hike looking to explore. Venture off the trails you know so well to new trails, new mountains, new friends and new memories.
