Climbing Horton Peak

02/10/2018

Trip Report/Photos from

Featured Photo Horton Peak is one of the few Idaho mountains I know that has a trail running to the summit. Not that I would have been able to find it, even during one of the mildest winters the state has known. Horton is the most easily accessed peak in the White Cloud Range, a remote and largely roadless area that neighbors the more famous Sawtooth Mountains. The hardest part of the day was fording the Salmon River before dawn, the air temperature standing at -2 F. In comparison, climbing relatively benign Horton was a snap. Here's to warm, dry feet!
