Be Prepared: Please be prepared to be self-sufficient. Have your own provisions such as first aid kit, food, water, extra clothing for unplanned weather, etc. Have your EMERGENCY CONTACT SHEET completed and in your backpack; it may save your life, and help reach someone who greatly cares!
Pace: There may be activities when the group is either slower or faster than your current ability. Please know that because this is a group activity, it's hard to accommodate everyone's pace perfectly. Our desire is not to leave anyone, however there have been times when it is in the best interest of all to split up. Please do your part by knowing your own abilities, communicating with the organizer head of time if you would like to start early and have us catch up or fine with finishing on your own.

Please join me for a 5-6 mile hike in the beautiful woodlands of the 3000 acre property owned by the Metropolitan District water company (  We'll hike to a rocky viewpoint overlooking Hartford and eastern CT for lunch; then wander down and back around 2 reservoirs to end the walk.  The current extended forecast would indicate this will indeed be a hike, but if it happens to snow enough before the 17th, it would become a XC event.

Driving directions to the location and spot to meet at:

From the North and South: Take I-91 South or North to I-84 West and follow the directions below.

From the East and West: Take I-84 to Exit 39 (Route 4). At the end of the ramp take a right at the light onto Route 4 East towards UConn Medical Center and West Hartford. At the sixth light (a distance of 2 ½ miles) take a left into the Facility.

We'll meet at the walking bridge leading from the parking lot to the MDC property.  Please bring a lunch and beverage and wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots.

I found this trail map at the MDC site: . Is there an address or GPS coordinates for the entrance to the property?
