2017 GayOutdoors Photo Contest

We are thrilled to announce the winner of our annual photo contest! The winner will receive $50, a full membership, and get recognized on our website/newsletter.

This year we had 26 contestants. "We always have such a wonderful response for this contest," noted Mike Boisvert, GO President. "We really look for photos that capture the beauty of the greater outdoors as well as capturing the spirit of outdoorzy men. This is a great way to highlight the artistic work of our members."

The winner of the GayOutdoors Photo Contest is Bob Pye from Rochester, New York. Last year he came in second place so it shows perserverance does pays off! Bob replied once he was informed that he was the winner, " Winning this will only encourage me to seek out new locations in more places to take photos that are worthy enough for such an event. I have a lot of work ahead of me."

This is a countdown where the photos with the least votes are ranked at the top eventually leading to the winners at the bottom.

1) Late setting sun breaking through the clouds cast an ethereal play of light and shadow into a grove of Aspens in the La Sal Mountains of southern Utah, near the town of Moab. 2) An early snowfall competing with autumn colors in Albion Basin in the Wasatch Mountains of northern Utah. 3) Late evening on the Temple of the Sun massive rock formation in the Cathedral Valley area of Capital Reef National Park. 4) Autumn bather in the hot springs in Diamond Fork canyon in the Wasatch Mountains of north/central Utah. The color of the water is not photoshopped, it is due to large amounts of calcium carbonate in the water that formed the limestone that lines the creek and reflects its color so strongly (much like Havasu Falls and other famous hot springs). 5) A lonely juniper twisted and tormented by the ever-present high winds atop a mesa in Canyonlands National Park.

1) Among the great parks in the USA, Yosemite is right up there at the top. The shot was taken at Toulomne Meadows in the early morning, my friend and I were camping days after a snow fall in the late summer and that may seem like a contradiction to some but it was an adventure for me.
2) Back home as fall was setting in, the colors of the leaves and bright sun shine mixed harmoniously together in the reflection of this duck pond just north of my home in a local park.
3) Still in fall season, New York has a fair share of state parks to visit, Fillmore Glen is one of those parks that provides a great day hike with plenty of scenic beauty to spare.
4) Back at Yosemite during the same time period as the first picture, the temperature was much warmer in the valley and on this hike up the side of the Merced River to Vernai Falls.
5) As we left Yosemite Valley to head back to camp on our final evening in the park, we were graced with a spectacular sunset that lit up the mountains in an orange hue of light.
