Hiking/Walk Fall Colors on the Highline Trail

Meeting Time: 7:00 AM

Event Coordinator: CJDGO
Phoenix, AZ
US

Max # People: 8

Trip Guiding / Event Fee: No, I will not be asking participants for money

Difficulty Level: Moderate to Strenuous

SUMMARY:

Looping together the Derrick, Highline and Horton Creek Trails, we’ll trek along pretty, musical Horton Creek surrounded by oaks and maples blushing with early fall color.

We’ll hike almost 10 miles round trip with nearly 1300’ of elevation gain. This hike will be fairly strenuous and is suitable only for experienced hikers in good condition.

Our hike will begin around 9am and take us about seven hours to complete, so plan on an evening return home. A forecast of rain or snow 48 hours before our start cancels, as does fewer than four signups as of 8pm, Thursday, October 25. Pack at least 2 liters of water, lunch and the rest of the Ten Essentials.

We’ll meet at the Shea/SR-51 (Dreamy Draw) Park-and-Ride at 7:00am (SHARP!) on the morning of Saturday, October 27. This is a consciously low-impact outing, so carpool participation is strongly encouraged. Please share your carpool vehicle’s gas and mileage expenses.
